The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has denounced the reported attack on a Zaa Multimedia reporter Dokurugu Abubakar Ndeeya by suspected New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters.
According to the station's management, on Thursday, May 16, 2024, the reporter faced a violent assault while trying to capture an altercation between New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters and a police officer.
While documenting the incident, the reporter was attacked by four individuals believed to be NPP supporters.
In a statement released on Monday, May 20, signed by the Northern Regional Chairman of the GJA, Yakubu Abdul-Majeed, the association urged all leaders, especially politicians, to join them in unequivocally condemning assaults on journalists.
The GJA also urged the police to promptly address the issue.
"The GJA hereby urges the Northern Regional Police Command to employ all legitimate means at their disposal to apprehend the culprits behind this assault on our colleague and ensure they face the full consequences of the law.”
The association has restated its commitment to protecting journalists in the region, allowing them to carry out their duties without fear or intimidation.
