Former General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Atik Mohammed, has criticized President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s recent appointment of his Executive Secretary, Nana Bediatuo Asante, as Ambassador-at-Large.
Atik questioned both the timing and necessity of the appointment, calling it insensitive to the concerns of the Ghanaian populace.
He expressed his dismay about the timing of the appointment ahead of the December polls.
“What on earth would prompt the president to appoint his executive secretary as Ambassador-at-Large just six months before an election?” he queried.
Atik further argued that, the President’s actions indicate a lack of responsiveness to the needs of Ghanaians.
“If he truly listens to the people, he wouldn’t have made this move. It seems to me that the president is displaying insensitivity towards Ghanaians. What urgent global matters necessitate an ambassador-at-large appointment so close to an election?” he quizzed.
The appointment of Nana Bediatuo Asante was announced during a ceremony at the Jubilee House on Monday, June 24, 2024.
He has been serving as President Akufo-Addo’s Executive Secretary since 2017.
