Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has submitted a Right to Information (RTI) request to the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA) to obtain details on the clearance given to the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to offload a 60% sale in its four hotels to Bryan Acheampong's Rock City Hotel.
This move follows statements by the Minister for Employment, Labour Relations, and Pensions, Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, in Parliament, confirming NPRA’s directive allowing SSNIT to proceed with the controversial sale despite previous opposition.
The Minister noted that NPRA reviewed the transaction and found the process satisfactory.
"So, as a Minister, I can tell you on authority that NPRA has since indicated that they had seen the processes and they think that SSNIT can go ahead" the Minister noted.
In this regard, Mr Ablakwa's RTI request seeks to verify the Minister's claims and obtain a copy of NPRA’s review to ensure the transaction does not violate any conflict of interest provisions in the 1992 constitution.
The MP also demands transparency and accountability in the deal, reflecting public concern over the sale of these assets.

Meanwhile, Organised Labour has declared an indefinite strike action following the National Pensions Regulatory Authority's (NPRA) approval giving clearance to SSNIT, to proceed with its controversial plan to offload a 60% stake in four hotels to Bryan Acheampong's Rock City Hotel.
According to the Secretary General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Dr Yaw Baah, the Union does not understand why the NPRA would allow SSNIT to proceed with the deal without further engagement after it initially ordered SSNIT to halt the procedure.
