Questions have emerged over claims by New Patriotic Party (NPP) UK chairmanship candidate Isaac Appiah Kubi regarding his role in Ghana's national electric bus project following the release of documents obtained from the Ministry of Transport under the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989).

Mr Appiah Kubi has publicly stated, including during an appearance on JoyNews' *AM Show* on August 5, 2026, that he played a leading role in developing the financial model that secured funding for the project.

However, according to the Ministry of Transport documents referenced as SP 160/349/01, there is no mention of Mr Appiah Kubi or his company, Crowned Eagle Limited, among the entities listed as participating in the financing, structuring or implementation of the initiative.

The National Electric Vehicle Policy project, launched on November 27, 2024, by then Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, introduced 100 electric buses into the fleet of Metro Mass Transit Limited.

Ministry records identify the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Finance and Metro Mass Transit Limited as the lead public institutions, working with partners including Solar Taxi, BT Charging & Mobility, C.2 Stars Limited, EXCL Logistics & Consult Limited, Value Verdict Limited, Global Icons Agency and Kings University.

The discrepancy between Mr Appiah Kubi's public statements and the contents of the RTI documents has generated discussion within sections of the party ahead of the NPP UK elections.

Some party members have called for further clarification regarding the nature and extent of his involvement in the project.

Critics have also referenced provisions of the NPP Constitution relating to integrity and truthfulness, urging Mr Appiah Kubi to provide documentation if he maintains that he played a role not reflected in the Ministry's records.

Throughout his campaign, Mr Appiah Kubi has highlighted his association with Ghana’s electric bus initiative as part of his credentials, describing himself as a “reliable patriot” who contributed to the project.

His campaign materials state that he “supported the introduction of the first public electric buses in Ghana by the party in government.”

Mr Appiah Kubi has also spoken about his involvement in the project at campaign engagements and in media appearances.

During an interview on JoyNews AM on August 5, 2026, he reiterated his claim that he played a role in the introduction of the electric buses, including contributing to efforts around the financial modelling for the project.

The claims have formed part of his broader campaign message as he seeks to convince delegates ahead of the NPP UK chairmanship election.
