Awudome Senior High School has just shown why they are joint top-scorers (75 points) from the National Science and Math Quiz Volta regional qualifiers, with a strange victory over Zion College and 2022 zonal champions Bishop Herman College.
Awusco took the lead in the first round of what promised to be a three-horse race in the first semifinal contest of the GOIL PLC Volta-Oti Zonal Championship. The lads from Peki ended round one with 21 points.
But Bishop Herman came back to take a temporary lead with 27 points at the end of the second round, leaving Awudome and Zion College on 23 and 15 points respectively.

The surprises in this contest didn’t seem to be over because, in an interesting turn of events, Zion College made a resurrection, staging a huge comeback to take the top spot at the end of the second round. They had a 31-point tie lead with Awudome SHS. Bishop Herman ran second with 30 points.

The race was now left to be settled in the fourth and final round of riddles. It was now clear this could sway anyway between the three schools, who are now blurring on full cylinders.
Interestingly, the two schools shared the spoils of the battle, but Awudome had the upper hand.
Zion College failed to grab a share of the riddles, ending the contest with 31 points. Bishop Herman answered one correctly to increase their tally to 33, while Awudome SHS answered two correctly to win with 37 points.
Awusco has successfully secured a slot in the GOIL PLC Volta-Oti Zonal Championship as they hope to win and ink their name in history as the fourth school to lift the trophy.

Meanwhile, Bishop Herman still has a chance to qualify for the grand finale depending on how the contest between KETASCO v MAWULI and KPASEC goes. There is the chance for a second-placed high-scoring school from the two contests to join the two winners in a 3-team final match.
