The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has suspended its industrial action which took effect today, July 15.
According to the GMA, this decision follows a National Executive Council (NEC) emergency meeting with Organised Labour.
In a July 15 release signed by the President and General Secretary of the Association, Dr. (Med) Frank Serebour and Dr. (Dent) Richard Selormey, the association said Organised Labour has received official communication from the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) that it has withdrawn its decision to offload 60% shares in four hotels to a private firm owned by Ghana's Minister of Food and Agriculture.
Following this development, GMA has directed its members to call off the industrial action and return to post.
“Following an emergency meeting on 15th July, 2024, Organised Labour has decided to suspend the industrial action with immediate effect following a formal communication by SSNIT confirming the termination of the sale of the 60% shares.”
“NEC in the light of this decision, suspends with immediate effect, the earlier issued roadmap for industrial action and directs that all members return to post,” the release added
On July 12, GMA initiated actions to get its members to lay down their tools in solidarity with its umbrella body, organised labour. As a result, the strike started in some health facilities today, Monday.
Organised Labour in announcing an end to the strike, gave SSNIT one month to address its concerns.
