The former Board Secretary of the Komenda Sugar Factory, Ransford Amoah, has accused the Akufo-Addo government of failing to operationalise the factory.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Mr Amoah criticised the government for its lack of action regarding a $24.5 million loan acquired by the previous administration.
He explained that the John Mahama administration secured the loan to facilitate the planting of sugarcane to ensure a steady supply of raw materials for the factory.
He, however, claims that since President Akufo-Addo assumed office in 2017, he has failed to utilise these funds for its intended purpose.

“The NPP government is not ready to run the Komenda Sugar Factory, they did not even assess the $24.5 million loan acquired by the previous government.
“The purpose of that money was to develop and plant more sugarcane. The money was meant to produce more sugarcane so that there will be enough raw material for the factory for production,” he said on Tuesday.

He continued, “But they abandoned all these, so for the past seven years, they have not assessed that loan, they haven’t grown a single sugarcane but the government keeps talking about the unavailability of raw material.”
The factory, commissioned by former President John Mahama before the 2016 election, has been under lock and key mainly because managers of the factory say there are not enough raw materials to feed the factory.
