The maiden edition of the Waakye festival is scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 3, 2024.
The event, which is expected to bring patrons from far and near is being held by the organizers of THE Koforidua Fufu Party and Koforidua Marathon, Wise Ink Concepts.
You don’t have to miss out on the culinary event of the year which starts from 6 am to 5 pm at The Zion School Park Kakraba Adade in the Gomoa East District.
The festival seeks to promote the popular Ghanaian dish and promises to be an event that will leave a lasting impression on the minds of patrons.
It’s been held under the theme, of community revitalisation through a cultural culinary festival.
It will feature an impressive lineup of local and international cuisine, cooking demonstrations, free health screening, free dental screening; children's playgrounds and Game Park.
Other activities include rap battles, dancing and eating competitions.
There would be over 30 food stalls offering a diverse range of dishes, from traditional favourites to innovative creations.
There will be live music and performances to keep you entertained and a chance to vote for your favourite food vendor.
There will also be a meet-and-greet with some renowned Ghanaian celebrities.

Ghanaian musicians Koo Ntakra, Santrofie, Babylow, Fresh wan GH, Bush Girl, Vapour, Shata Ratty and other special surprises are among those expected to perform.
The CEO of Wise Ink Concepts, Mr Kwabena Bediako Antwi-Dako popularly known as IBK or Wofa 1 is optimistic, this maiden edition will be big.

“Waakye” is derived from the Hausa word shinkafa da wake,” which means rice and beans.
The dish is popular in Northern Ghana among the Hausa communities, whose staple crops are rice and beans.
