Member of Ghana’s 4x100m relay team, Ibrahim Fuseini, has described the team’s performance in the heats of the 4x100m relay at the Olympics as their worst since they began competing together.
The quartet—comprising Abdul Rasheed Saminu, Benjamin Azamati, Ibrahim Fuseini, and Joseph Paul Amoah—recorded a time of 38.62 seconds in Heat 2. However, their effort was overshadowed by a disqualification due to an infringement during the baton exchange.
This setback is reminiscent of the previous Olympics, where the team was also disqualified in the final due to similar issues with the baton exchange.
Commenting on the incident during the exchange with Joseph Paul Amoah, Fuseini said:
“I don’t really know what happened, but I think initially when I was thinking about it, we passed the changeover box before entering the first round, so I think that was it.” he said to JoySports editor, Fentuo Tahiru Fentuo.
He added that “Though it's our worst performance ever, I think we’re still going to work on it and come back stronger next year.”
The exit of the 4x100m relay team marks the end of Ghana’s participation in the 2024 Olympics.
