A former President of the Students Representative Council at the University of Ghana, Edmond Kombat, has urged the youth to vote for the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming elections.
According to him, John Mahama is someone who understands the suffering and pain of the ordinary Ghanaian, and therefore, he would run a more inclusive government.
Speaking at the launch of the NDC manifesto on August 12, he said the current economic system favours individuals who are linked to the founding fathers of the nation, the Big Six.
He advised that if the youth do not have blood relations to the Big Six like Mr Mahama, it would be best to vote for the NDC flagbearer.
“If you are a young person like me, if you don’t have a double-barreled surname and your father or your grandfather was not part of the Big Six, and your father is not president, and you cannot get $34.5 million to be able to supply spare parts and you are like me, please do not sit. Get up, join the train, campaign and vote for President Mahama come December 7,” he said.
Mr Kombat said that John Mahama will invest heavily in agriculture to create 2.5 million jobs.
He explained that the NDC has noticed that although many young people are interested in farming, securing land has been a problem.
Therefore, if given the mandate as president, Mr Mahama will collaborate with chiefs so that land can be leased to these young people.
Additionally, a Farm Services Corporation will be established in each district. This Authority will help farmers acquire improved seeds and fertilizer, provide access to markets for their produce, and ensure that value addition is linked to their farming activities.
