The National General Secretary of the Progressive People's Party (PPP), Remy Edmundson has expressed the party's support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC)'s demand for an external forensic audit of the voters' register.

 He noted that concerns about the register are widespread, with many across the country raising alarm.

Mr Edmundson warned that the unauthorised transfer of voters from their polling stations, which seems to be widespread, could result in chaos.

The NDC Minority in Parliament raised concerns about possible tampering with the voters' register, citing irregularities and flaws some of which the Electoral Commission has admitted.

The Minority Leader declared that the NDC no longer trusts the integrity of the register.

Speaking on JoyNews AM show, Mr Edmundson said, “Imagine people going to vote, knowing that this is where they registered, and then they find their votes are not there. It is going to create all manner of confusion, and we do not want that. This election is quite critical. There is already so much tension, and we need the Electoral Commission to be really upfront with us and let us know what the issues are, if there are any.”

He indicated that all political parties are stakeholders that need to collaborate to support the electoral process, and any valid allegations must be resolved before the elections.

Mr Edmundson said that with the exhibition period ending, the Electoral Commission needs to compile the final register, which is the critical first step.

“We know they are going to address all the complaints that have been raised and work on them. Therefore, we urge the EC to make this information available as quickly as possible so that political parties will have enough time to review it. If there are any issues, we can engage with them again and work together to resolve them before the elections. That should be the first step. Let us have the final register compiled, and then we can see if the identified mistakes have been addressed and proceed from there.”
