A founding member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has questioned the Electoral Commission's refusal to conduct a forensic audit of the voter's register ahead of the December 7 election.
According to him, this refusal signals underlying problems within the Commission.
His comments come after the National Democratic Congress (NDC) accused the EC of refusing to allow for a forensic audit of the voter's register after it alleged several anomalies, including illegal transfer of votes.
Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show on September 19, he said, “Let me give you an example. Imagine I stole your car and your car is parked in my house, and you brought in policemen to check if the car is with me. There is every indication that the car is with me but I will be preventing you from entering into my house; that is what they [EC] are doing.”
“Why should they be afraid if they do not have a problem with forensic examination? Why should they be afraid if they do not have anything to hide?”
Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe urged citizens to approach the issue from a broader perspective, explaining that the challenges facing the nation extend beyond political affiliations.
“Where we are now, it is not a partisan affair. We are getting into a very serious problem. It's not about NPP or NDC or any other party hanging around. We must look at this nation now. This nation is already a failed nation.”
“Things are getting worse and I am getting worried. I know there are elders my age and they have gone silent for reasons I don’t know. I hope with the sort of alarm bells from the trade union organisations and other sectors, that Ghanaian will sit up now,” he said.
