The National Peace Council says the posture of the Electoral Commission (EC) will be crucial in resolving the impasse between the opposition National Democratic Congress and the elections management body.
Recently, the NDC held nationwide protests, demanding a forensic audit of the provisional voter’s register, which they claim is flawed.
The NDC reinforced their demands on Monday by engaging with Civil Society Organisations and the international community, consistently calling for greater transparency from the Electoral Commission (EC).
NPC's Executive Secretary, George Amoh mentioned that the Council has been mediating between the EC and the NDC to find an agreeable solution.
“We have engaged the EC and NDC and we are hopeful that an agreeable method would be acceptable in the near future. I mean probably today, tomorrow, or the day after,” he stated.
He said this at the JoyNews-Catholic Relief Services Dialogue on Saturday, September 24.
According to him, although efforts are underway to resolve the stalemate, the posture of the EC will be crucial in resolving the matter.
He added that “we believe our leaders have good intentions for our country and what we [EC] need to do is to create the environment for them to help shape the country to the Ghana we all want to have.”
“The Electoral Commission has a huge role to play in addressing the trust issues. The posture we put up sometimes if your words do not go with your body language... it will create some doubts in the minds of people.
"So, I think all of us will have to learn lessons and make sure we contribute to make our country the beacon of democracy we are known for,” he indicated.
