Nerves and anxiety can affect footballers at all levels.
Even the greatest performers of the game are not exempt to their effects.
That was the case of Frank Adjei Mensah, Chief Executive Officer of Feenam Industries, producers of PEEVA Beverages, at this year's JoySports Invitational.
With a man-less, mini-sized goalpost to aim at, Frank Adjei Mensah fluffed the opportunity to win the CEO's penalty shootout at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium last Saturday.
Despite investing heavily in his preparations, Adjei Mensah failed to live up to the expectations.
''I was poised for it. I trained a lot to win but unfortunately, it did not work out.
''Even though I flew in a foreign coach to hemp me practice the penalty shootouts, it still did not work out.''
Adjei Mensah's experience had made him more sympathetic towards professional footballers.
''I think the crowd (made me nervous). When I got to the pitch, I was overwhelmed by the support of everybody. That put a lot of pressure on me. And that reminded me of Saka's penalty miss for England against Italy. I now feel the pressure they fault, with 90,000 spectators at Wembley watching. It is not easy when you look at the thousands who were present at the University of Ghana stadium on Saturday.'' he concluded.
Eventually, the competition was won by the Chief Executives of I.S Evolution Consult and Aramex who converted all five spot kicks.
Adjei Mensah, Chief Executive of Feenam Industries, producers of PEEVA Beverages, has promised to win the shootouts next season.
