The Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship & Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has challenged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to clarify what work, if any, they undertook on the Flower Pot Interchange before leaving office in 2017.
Ofosu Nkansah’s remarks, posted on his Facebook page on Tuesday, 12 November, questioned the NDC’s role in the early stages of the project, amidst claims by NDC communicators that the interchange was initiated by the John Dramani Mahama administration.
The controversy emerged as President Akufo-Addo prepares to commission the newly built Flower Pot Interchange on 19 November 2024.
This was confirmed by Eugene Arhin, the Director of Communications at the Presidency, who noted that the interchange is part of a broader motorway improvement project.
Designed to ease congestion, the flyover complements an existing underpass, providing a more streamlined North-South route across Accra’s major thoroughfare.
The NDC communicators’ assertions that the project began under Mahama’s administration have stirred debate, leading Ofosu Nkansah to publicly call for transparency.
He insists that if the NDC did initiate work on the interchange before 2017, they should provide specific details of their contributions.
Ofosu Nkansah’s challenge highlights his commitment to clarifying the project’s origins, especially as it is set to become a key infrastructure milestone in Ghana’s capital.
"NDC should show us the work they had done on the flower pot Interchange when we took over in 2017."
"Fmr President Mahama wanted to construct a bridge, President Akufo-Addo made it an Interchange in 2017 and used GoG funds to start it before completing with this Exim Facility. How's an intention to construct a bridge the same as construction of an Interchange?"
