The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Mahama, has called on the people of Afram Plains North and South Constituencies to reject "Skirt and Blouse" voting in the upcoming elections.
The term refers to casting a ballot for a presidential candidate from one party while selecting a parliamentary candidate from another.
Mr Mahama’s plea follows a challenge faced by the current Member of Parliament for Afram Plains North, Betty Mensah Krosby.
She is being opposed by Kpeli Worlase, a former NDC member who is now running as an independent candidate.
Despite supporting Mr Mahama’s presidential campaign, Worlase has declined to back the party’s chosen parliamentary representative.
During an address to local chiefs, clergy, and residents gathered at the Sakora Park in Donkorkrom on 21st November, Mr Mahama stressed the importance of unity within the party ranks.
The former President urged voters to avoid divisions that could weaken the NDC’s strength in Parliament.
Mr Mahama further highlighted that Betty Mensah Krosby is the sole candidate officially endorsed by the NDC for the parliamentary seat.
He called on the community to rally behind her to ensure that the party maintains its cohesive representation in Parliament.
“We don’t want any ‘Skirt and Blouse’ voting, I have not endorsed any parliamentary candidate to represent the party.
"We have only one parliamentary candidate, so nobody should vote for ‘Skirt and Blouse’. We need lots of MPs to help in the execution of projects in Afram Plains. The only MP I have endorsed is Betty Mensah Krosby," he stated.
