Ghana is set to host its 2024 National Para Powerlifting Competition on December 3, coinciding with this year’s World Disability Day celebrations.
The event, organized by the Ghana Para-Powerlifting Association in collaboration with the National Paralympic Committee of Ghana (NPC-Ghana), will bring together over 50 para-powerlifters from five regions.
The competition aims to identify and rank athletes for the 2025 season while building a comprehensive database of recognized para-powerlifters in the country. Organizers hope the event will boost the competitiveness of Ghana’s national team on the global stage.
“This initiative is part of our vision to establish Ghana as a key contender in world para-powerlifting,” a spokesperson from the association explained.

The event will also serve as a talent-scouting platform, identifying potential athletes ahead of mandatory qualification events in 2025. Athletes and stakeholders will be educated on new rules and strategic plans for the sport’s development.
The competition is part of Ghana’s activities marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, celebrated under the theme “Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future.”
The Ghana Para-Powerlifting Association has invited the Paralympic community and the public to attend and support this significant event, which promises to highlight the strength and potential of Ghanaian para-athletes.
