Former Boarch Chairman of Asante Kotoko, Herbert Mensah, has urged the sporting industry to examine itself again after Ghana's recent low across all sectors.
According to him, the country has lost its value as a 'great sporting nation' after failing to hit the right notes in major competitions that Ghana has competed.
The Black Stars' failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations was the latest disappointment in Ghana's sporting sector with Mensah calling on the needed authorities to take a careful look at the trend.
Other failures included the country's unconvincing performances at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris and also the Commonwealth Games.
"We have to look inwardly at ourselves. A great sporting nation like Ghana is no longer a great sporting nation," he said in an interview with Joy News.
"You go to the Olympics, we wasted taxpayers' money, you go to Commonwealth Games, we’ve wasted taxpayers' money. You go to the Nations Cup (AFCON) and the amount of money that is spent, singularly on football, the political sport, is not acceptable."
Ghana, known for its boxing prowess, qualified no boxer to the Olympic Games while they also won no medals at the games in Paris, France earlier this year.
