Soldiers and police officers have been deployed to the headquarters of the Ghana Gas Company in Accra following a tense standoff involving irate youth.
The deployment comes amid reports that the alleged supporters attempted to storm the premises, leading to clashes with security personnel.
The heavy military presence is part of efforts to maintain order and prevent further escalation of the situation.
According to the former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority, Kwadwo Twum Boafo, who lives in the neighborhood, he was contacted by some residents regarding the incident.
He believes that the perpetrators are supporters of the NDC.
Mr Boafo advised the irate youth that "you are not helping president-elect Mahama with this kind of conduct."
“President Mahama is even yet to take office, so let's not create more problems for him than he has to solve.”
He added, "you’ve taken your time for 8 years, don’t mess it up now."
Eyewitnesses also claimed that the crowd tried to forcibly enter the GNGCL offices, prompting security forces to fire warning shots to disperse the group.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident, and the motive behind the attempted intrusion remains unclear.
Meanwhile, the situation is being closely monitored as security personnel work to stabilise the scene.
