Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table to seven points with a 3-1 comeback victory over Leicester at Anfield on Boxing Day.
Despite the result, the spotlight briefly shone on Jordan Ayew, who gave Leicester a shock lead in the sixth minute.
Ayew capitalised on Stephy Mavididi's low cross, turning sharply to fire a deflected shot into the bottom corner, leaving Liverpool stunned and Leicester dreaming of an upset.
However, the league leaders quickly regained their composure. Cody Gakpo levelled the score in first-half stoppage time with a brilliant solo effort, cutting inside from the left and curling a stunning strike into the far corner.
Liverpool took control early in the second half when Curtis Jones slotted home from Alexis Mac Allister's precise cut-back.
The Reds continued to dominate, and Mohamed Salah sealed the victory late on, driving into the box from the right and finishing expertly past Leicester goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk for his 16th league goal of the season.
Liverpool's triumph, coupled with Chelsea's earlier loss to Fulham, means Arne Slot's side now enjoy a commanding position at the summit of the Premier League.
Their lead could be trimmed to six points if Arsenal defeat Ipswich on Friday, but with a game in hand, the Reds remain firm favourites in the title race.
For Leicester, Ayew’s early strike was a rare highlight in an otherwise frustrating evening. The defeat, their third in a row, sees them slip to 18th in the table, a point adrift of safety as they continue to battle against relegation.
