President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria has called on Africans to embrace peaceful dialogue as a means of resolving conflicts and fostering unity across the continent.

Speaking at the inauguration of President John Dramani Mahama of Ghana in Accra on 7th January, 2025, Tinubu emphasised the importance of avoiding violence and prioritising harmony to ensure progress and development.

In his address, Mr Tinubu highlighted the detrimental impact of conflicts and urged Africans to rise above divisions.

He stressed that understanding and mutual respect are essential for strengthening the bonds of brotherhood among nations and communities.

“Even when we disagree, we must choose the path of peaceful dialogue,” he said. “Never can we harm our brothers, nor can we permit any outsider to destroy our bonds of brotherhood.”

As the special guest of honour at the ceremony, Tinubu commended the symbolic significance of Ghana’s Black Star, describing it as a constant reminder of unity and the shared aspirations of Africans.

“That star reminds us always to strive and walk together, bound together,” he remarked, inspiring hope for a collective African vision of peace and progress.

Tinubu, who also serves as the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), expressed unwavering support for President Mahama as he embarks on his second term in office.

He assured the Ghanaian leader of ECOWAS’s commitment to fostering regional stability and collaboration. “You can always count on my support,” Tinubu affirmed, pledging Nigeria’s partnership in advancing common goals.

The Nigerian President’s remarks resonated with the audience, setting a tone of solidarity and optimism for Ghana and the wider African continent.
