The National Peace Council (NPC) has congratulated John Dramani Mahama on his inauguration as President of Ghana and Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces.
The Council also congratulated Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, and the newly sworn-in Members of Parliament of the 9th Parliament.
In a statement, the NPC praised the peaceful transition of leadership, describing it as a reflection of Ghana’s resilient democracy and a beacon of hope for the African continent.
"This moment not only reflects the resilience of Ghana’s democracy but also stands as a beacon of hope and inspiration for the region and beyond," the statement read.
The NPC lauded the unwavering commitment of Ghanaians to peace during the election period and commended political actors and institutions for their dedication to upholding the principles of tolerance, respect, and unity.
The Council highlighted the collective effort of all stakeholders, which ensured another successful election and transition of power.
The Council emphasized the importance of collaboration in addressing the nation’s challenges, urging all political actors and citizens to work together to strengthen peace and national development.
It called for the use of dialogue and due process in resolving any outstanding constituency electoral issues to foster trust and unity.
“This inauguration marks the culmination of months of dedication and collaboration by all stakeholders to ensure that Ghana continues to be a model for peaceful elections and transitions of democratic power in Africa,” the statement added.
The NPC reiterated its commitment to fostering dialogue and implementing conflict prevention mechanisms to ensure sustainable peace in Ghana.
It called on all Ghanaians to remain steadfast in promoting tolerance and unity, which are essential for the country’s growth and development.
