President John Mahama has presented a truckload of medical equipment to the Ho District Hospital as part of the government's efforts to strengthen primary healthcare delivery under the Free Primary Healthcare programme.
The donation forms part of a nationwide distribution of essential medical logistics aimed at improving healthcare services at the primary level and expanding access to quality care, particularly in underserved communities.

Presenting the equipment at the Ho District Hospital, President Mahama commended health workers for their dedication and assured them of the government's commitment to improving their working conditions.

He said the Free Primary Healthcare programme is designed to provide free healthcare services at Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds, health centres, and polyclinics for millions of Ghanaians who are not covered by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
According to the President, the initiative seeks to remove financial barriers to basic healthcare while ensuring that essential services are accessible to all citizens.

Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, disclosed that the government has procured more than 24,000 medical items for distribution to health facilities across the country to support the implementation of the programme.

He explained that the Free Primary Healthcare policy complements the NHIS by placing greater emphasis on preventive healthcare through community outreach, early disease detection, and timely intervention.
Mr. Akandoh added that the initiative introduces a proactive healthcare model under which health professionals will undertake regular community outreach programmes and home visits to promote healthy living and facilitate early diagnosis of illnesses.

The government expects the intervention to significantly strengthen primary healthcare delivery and improve access to essential health services nationwide.
