President John Mahama has urged his supporters to avoid illegal activities and embrace responsibility as his administration begins its work.
“I call on all our supporters and others engaged in illegal actions, such as looting goods and occupying government offices, to desist from such practices. We must do things differently to maintain the trust and confidence Ghanaians have placed in us,” he said.
Speaking at the National Muslim Prayer and Thanksgiving at the National Mosque at Kanda in Accra, the President reminded Ghanaians that the conclusion of elections signals the start of a greater shared responsibility.
“The end of elections marks the beginning of greater responsibility for all of us. Regardless of political affiliation, we must work together towards our shared vision, development and prosperity for Ghana,” he stated.
He also urged his supporters not to repeat the mistakes of the past, saying, “Many have said it’s the same thing the NPP did in 2017, and that is why Ghanaians voted them out. We must not copy their mistakes. I plead with you, let us do things in an orderly manner.”
President Mahama assured Ghanaians that his government is working swiftly to establish its administration, promising to appoint a full cabinet within 14 days. “The government is being formed, and ministers will be put in place, and if you have any issues, you can go to them to have them resolved. Let’s exercise restraint and act responsibly,” he added.
He concluded by reminding the nation of the strength found in unity and diversity.
“Our diversity as a people is not a weakness, indeed it is our strength. Whether we are Muslims, Christians, or from any other faith, our collective aspirations for a better future bind us together,” he said.
