The Interior Minister nominee, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has expressed his opposition to the gun salute incident in his house following his nomination.
A viral video captured a uniformed policeman firing his gun into the air to celebrate the Asawase Member of Parliament (MP) on Tuesday, January 21.
The elated nominee, dressed in an all-white agbada, was seen coming out from a room into the compound, where he was met by the team who congratulated him.
The action attracted mixed reactions among Ghanaians, with many questioning what the policeman’s explanation for the used shell to his superiors would be.

However, appearing before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Friday, January 24, Mr Muntaka disclosed that he was vehemently against the action.
He stated that he immediately directed the policeman to apologise, although he did not disclose the medium of apology.
“I was vehemently against that shooting in my house, which is why I came out and have since made the officer apologise because I didn’t think that was right,” he stated.
The explanation came after Abetifi MP, Bryan Acheampong, brought up the issue, subtly mocking the nominee’s posture.
On a lighter note, the former Minister for Food and Agriculture said the nominee is supposed to be in the position of attention during a gun salute, sparking laughter among the audience.
