Dr Edward Omane Boamah, the Defence Minister dominee, has expressed his admiration for the appointment of Larry Gbevlo-Lartey as the Special Envoy to the Alliance of Sahelian States.
Speaking during his vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Tuesday, January 28, Dr Omane Boamah described Gbevlo-Lartey’s appointment as a strategic and commendable decision by the President.
“I believe Larry Gbevlo-Lartey is a man of vast experience and excellent diplomatic acumen. His appointment as Special Envoy to the Alliance of Sahelian States demonstrates the President’s commitment to prioritising regional security and diplomacy,” Dr Omane Boamah said during the session.
Dr Omane Boamah further noted that Gbevlo-Lartey’s extensive background in security and international relations made him an ideal candidate to represent Ghana in the Sahel region.
He emphasised that fostering stronger ties with the Alliance of Sahelian States would be crucial in addressing shared challenges such as terrorism and instability.
“At a time when the Sahel faces significant security threats, having someone with his expertise is a clear indication that Ghana is taking its regional responsibilities seriously,” he added.
The Defence Minister nominee concluded by calling on Parliament to fully support the President’s decision, underscoring the importance of strong leadership in advancing regional cooperation.
“We must rally behind such appointments to ensure Ghana’s active role in promoting peace and stability in the Sahel and beyond,” Dr Omane Boamah stated.
