A devastating car accident occurred on Saturday along the Sunyani-Abesim highway, claiming the life of a physically-challenged cobbler in his thirties.
The deceased, affectionately known as "Connection," was returning home from purchasing a phone charger when the driver of a private saloon car lost control and struck him.
Eyewitnesses reported that the accident happened around 3 pm near the Oti Yeboah Company Limited (OYCL) section of the highway. The driver believed to be in his 70s, has surrendered himself to the Abesim police station and is cooperating with investigations.
Witness accounts describe the chaotic scene, with bystanders, including food vendors, fleeing for their lives as the car veered off the road. Unfortunately, the deceased, who had his right leg amputated, was unable to escape and was knocked down by the car, resulting in instant death.
The police arrived at the scene around 4 pm and retrieved the body, which was covered with leaves by onlookers. The deceased's mobile phone, crutches, slippers, and phone charger were found near the body.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, and an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
