Joseph Esso’s second-half strike sealed a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Basake Holy Stars at the Tuba Astro Turf on Sunday, February 2, 2025.
Abdul Razak Salifu put the host ahead before the break in the 42nd minute, but their lead was cancelled after a brilliant move finished off by Emmanuel Kwame in the 53rd minute.
Esso restored their lead just three minutes later. The Still Believe boys maintained their focus and discipline at the back to ensure there was no way back for the visitors as they secured all three points.
Dreams FC's first win of the second round gives Karim Zito’s side some breathing space for now.
This was their fourth win in the league, and this victory lifts Zito's team out of the relegation zone to 14th in the league standings, three points ahead of Karela United despite their win against Berekum Chelsea.
Meanwhile, Holy Stars' defeat drops them to 11th position with 20 points, three points ahead of Dreams FC.
Holy Stars coach Abdulai Gazale will be very disappointed not to have secured a point against Dreams FC.
This was Gazale’s eighth defeat in the league, and if they want to survive in the top flight, their results must improve.
Dreams FC will hope to extend their winning streak when they travel to face Heart of Lions in their next match, while Holy Stars will host Bibiani Gold Stars.
