The 2025 49th edition of the Hassan II Golf Trophy is ongoing at the majestic Royal Golf Dar Es Salam in Rabat.
Gonzalez was crowned the winner in 2024 after impressively securing a total of 209 strokes, finishing 10 under par, and claiming a $320,000 cash prize.
However, he faces competition from several others, including two impressive African golfers aiming for the title.
Ernie Els
Ernie Els is a South African professional golfer and former World No. 1. Among his more than 70 career victories are four major championships. Nicknamed "The Big Easy" for his smooth swing and imposing stature, Els won the Hassan II Golf Trophy in 2008, a significant achievement in his career. The 55-year-old is strongly competing for this year’s crown, sitting at -3 ahead of the final on February 8.
Retief Goosen
Retief Goosen is a two-time major golf champion and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2019, securing his status as one of South Africa’s greatest golfers.
Goosen has left an indelible mark on global golf, excelling on the PGA Tour, PGA Tour Champions, European Tour, and Sunshine Tour. Named European Tour Player of the Year in 2001, he also claimed the European Order of Merit in 2001 and 2002.
At the ongoing Hassan II Golf Trophy, his performance appears steady, with a +10 total heading into the final on Saturday.
