The Director of Strategy, Research, and Communication at the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), Samuel Appiah Darko has insisted that the former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta must be declared a fugitive.
"Yes, we have to do that because it is the legal procedure we must follow. Declaring him a fugitive means that we are now prepared to bring him in," he said when Samson Lardy Anyenini, host of Newsfile on JoyNews, asked, "What do you lose if you say we are investigating him? Do you have to declare him wanted and a fugitive from justice?"
Since the declaration, some legal practitioners have argued that the OSP could proceed without him and not necessarily declare him a fugitive.
Mr Appiah Darko, however, disagreed with these views and insisted that they must declare him wanted. "We need to complete the preliminary processes at the police station. Once we have finished that and he has been charged, we can proceed without him," he explained.
He emphasised that the OSP must follow legal procedures and not be swayed by public opinion.
