Residents of Fawoade Bampenase in the Kwabre East Municipality of Ashanti, have called on the Ghana Police Service to come to their aid by increasing visibility and strengthening security in the area.
According to them, the rampant robbery incidents in the area had become a source of worry and created fear and panic among residents in the community.
The robberies, which were caused by some unidentified youth in the community in broad daylight, during light outs and evenings, were becoming a critical concern to many people in the area.
In the spate of one week about five robbery cases have been reported in the community.
Ms Sherifatu Ibrahim, a National Service Personnel and resident of the area told the Ghana News Agency that, the robbers broke windows while their victims were asleep and robbed them of valuable items such as mobile phones, handbags, cash, and other valuable items.
Recounting her ordeal on February 12, she said the lights went off in the area while it was raining.
She woke up the next morning only to see her window broken by the thieves who managed to take away three bags containing valuable items through the window.
One of the bags contained GHC 1,000.00, her national identification card, health insurance and other documents.
She reported the case to the Mamponteng police, and the police said they would do their investigation.
The next day, she found her bags at a nearby uncompleted building, but the thieves had taken away the money and other valuable things, leaving her the national identification card, health insurance and other things.
According to her, that was the fifth time they had robbed her.
On that same day, they went to a nearby house to rob the occupants of their bags that contained money, clothes, and other valuable items.
They also went to another house and took away a car battery from the car.
Ms Ibrahim said the rampant robberies were so disturbing that residents could not go out after 2200 hours.
One can also go out between 0400 hours and 0500 hours in the morning since you would be robbed during that period.
She said some people were selling their property and moving out of the community due to the activities of the robbers.
Ms Ibrahim said the residents were worried about the situation and called on the police to come to their aid by strengthening security to protect the life and property of the people in the area.
