Deputy Minister nominee for Roads and Highways, Alhassan Suhuyini, surprised members of Parliament’s Appointments Committee with a symbolic gift of the traditional Dagbon smocks after his vetting session.

In a gesture of cultural appreciation and goodwill, Mr Suhuyini announced that his revered chiefs had sent smocks for him to present to the committee members.

This was after he was vetted on his vision and plans for the Ministry of Roads and Highways on Wednesday, February 26.

“In the spirit of accountability, permit me to announce that my revered chiefs brought you a smock for me to present on your behalf, and the same will be provided for all members of this committee so that, perhaps, during your next sitting, you all will be in the traditional Dagbon smock,” the Tamale Central MP stated.

His remarks were met with smiles from the committee members, who acknowledged the significance of the gift.

Also, Committee Chairman, Bernard Ahiafor acknowledged the gesture and thanked the nominee saying: “Thank you very much. It is much appreciated, and I am most grateful.”

The smock, known as “fugu” in the Dagbon tradition, is a symbol of cultural pride, leadership, and identity in northern Ghana.
