President John Mahama has expressed gratitude to labour unions for accepting the 10 per cent pay increase.
Speaking during his maiden State of the Nation Address in Parliament on Thursday, February 27, he acknowledged the sacrifices being made by Ghanaians and emphasised the importance of collective effort in nation-building.
He described 2025 as a year of sacrifice, urging citizens to remain hopeful for a better future. “I am confident that the sacrifice we have all made this year will benefit our country going into the future,” he stated.
He further reassured workers and the general public of his commitment to responsible governance.
President Mahama reiterated that his government would not engage in wasteful spending, emphasising the need for prudent economic management.
He assured organised labour that his administration would prioritise financial discipline to ensure sustainable economic growth.
Addressing the current economic challenges, he noted that his government was tightening its belt to stabilise and rebuild the economy.
He attributed the difficulties to the previous administration’s poor handling of the nation’s finances.
The President criticised the former NPP government for what he described as reckless economic mismanagement.
Mr Mahama insisted that the country’s financial woes were a result of the previous administration’s missteps and pledged to implement measures to restore economic stability.
“Together we shall build the Ghana we all want,” he stressed.
