The first Moroccan-American Medical Days took place on February 25-26 at the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy in Laayoune, aiming to enhance healthcare quality and strengthen the skills of doctors in the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region.
Organized by the Faculty in collaboration with Saint Francis Hospital in New York and the Regional Council of Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra, the event fostered collaboration between Moroccan and American medical institutions, facilitating knowledge exchange and promoting innovation in medicine and surgery.
Seven American specialists in endocrinology, nephrology, cardiology, gastroenterology, gynecology-obstetrics, and pediatrics participated, offering insights into the latest medical advancements to improve regional healthcare.
In her address, Faculty Dean Fatima Zahra El Hafidi highlighted the importance of professional exchanges in advancing medical innovation and enhancing care quality.
She emphasised Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra’s commitment to becoming a center of medical excellence, backed by skilled professionals and high-quality healthcare facilities.
A key moment of the event was the signing of a partnership agreement between Saint Francis Hospital and Laayoune’s regional hospitals.
Signed by Meyer Abittan, Saint Francis Hospital’s representative, and Ali Houari, Regional Director of Health and Social Protection, the agreement establishes collaboration in medical education, research, telemedicine, and best practice sharing.
As part of the program, Dr. Jon Batash, Medical Director of Post-Acute Care, delivered a presentation on the multidisciplinary approach to patient care in the U.S.
The second day featured notable attendees, including Abdeslam Bekrate, Wali of Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra, Sidi Hamdi Ould Errachid, President of the Regional Council, representatives from pharmaceutical company Laprophan, and consuls general accredited to Laayoune.
