Glasgow-based Ghanaian musician and storyteller, Cheef Chebe has announced the release of his latest single 'Waka Waka' on March 6, 2025.
The song comes with a style that combines African rhythms and sounds with other genres like hip-hop, pop, and jazz. I
Described as Afro-fusion, the style mixes sounds from Ghana and Nigeria, including hiplife, Naija beats, and juju music.
'Waka Waka' reflects on repatriation a message to black Africans in the diaspora to return home to our beautiful African continent.
Cheef Chebe, also known by many monikers including Suleman Chebe, Soulay Puliman and Frank McChebe, is a vibrant and multifaceted.
Originally from Ghana, Chebe moved to Scotland in 1997 after marrying his Scottish wife, Helen Chebe. Since then, he has become a prominent figure in Glasgow’s artistic and African community.
With a rich background in traditional Ghanaian music, Chebe brings an eclectic blend of folklore, rhythm, and healing energy to his performances, featuring instruments such as the Djembe drum and the Balafon.
Chebe’s career spans various artistic and community roles, including being the founder and music director of the Glasgow African Balafon Orchestra (GABO).
He has produced several notable works, including the upcoming albums Lift and Lift Up with GABO, and has been recognized for his contributions to music and community through numerous projects and engagements.
His creativity extends beyond music into literature, with several self-published books exploring African stories and traditions. An engaging entertainer and community advocate, Chebe’s contributions to the arts are complemented by his roles as a laughter coach, happiness guru, and former chair of the Ghana Welfare Association in Scotland.
His commitment to blending traditional African rhythms with contemporary influences continues to captivate audiences worldwide, making him a celebrated figure in both the music and literary worlds.
