A long-awaited confirmation has brought renewed optimism to the Kpando Municipality as Mr Killian Donkor has been officially endorsed as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), securing 68% support from the assembly members.
The confirmation ceremony, held amidst cheers and chants from supporters, marked the beginning of what many hope will be a new era of collaborative development for the area.
During the confirmation, the Member of Parliament for Kpando, Sebastian Deh, expressed gratitude to former President John Dramani Mahama for nominating what he described as an "excellent candidate" for the municipality.
“We were hoping for a 100% endorsement, but the 68% we received is in line with the rules and constitutes a clear majority,” the MP said.
“From the start, you could see the excitement—there were chants, and both the youth and elders were supportive. Killian Donkor is a well-known figure whose work has touched many sectors of our municipality.”
The MP highlighted Mr Donkor’s extensive experience as a political activist, entrepreneur, and dedicated contributor to traditional, educational, and youth development causes within Kpando.
“He has worked closely with me, even serving as my campaign manager in the last election,” he said. “Our relationship has been one of mutual respect, and I look forward to even stronger collaboration now that he’s been confirmed as MCE.”
He emphasised the need for unity and cooperation to ensure that Kpando reaps the full benefits of government policies and development initiatives, particularly in areas such as education and skills training.
“We must work together to bring the government's development agenda to the doorstep of our people. The President has shown trust in us, and it’s up to us to deliver,” Mr Deh added.
Also speaking at the event, Volta Regional Minister James Gunu commended the assembly for putting aside their differences to support the President’s nominee.

“You have proven that you endorse the President’s decisions, and more importantly, that you are united when it comes to development,” he said. “This is not a victory for one individual. It is a victory for all of us—a victory for progress.”
In his acceptance speech, the newly confirmed MCE, Mr Killian Donkor, pledged to work with all stakeholders to advance the development of Kpando Municipality.
“I open this new chapter of my working life with hope and commitment,” he said. “In the next 60 days, I will engage with relevant stakeholders to develop localised plans that will drive economic growth, create job opportunities, and improve infrastructure.”
Mr Donkor promised equitable distribution of resources and an expansion of access to clean water and quality public services across the municipality.
“As we move forward, my administration will align with the agenda of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, focusing on tangible results for the people of Kpando,” he concluded.
The event ended on a high note with calls for unity, collaboration, and a renewed focus on grassroots development for the benefit of all citizens in the municipality.
