Miracles Aboagye, an aide to the 2024 Presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has argued that the former Vice President is currently the most experienced and active politician within the NPP.
"In our party today, the most experienced politician, active politician in our party today is Dr Bawumia, no doubt about that."
He added, "He (Dr Bawumia) is the one who has been at the forefront of this country's politics than any other person, he is been vice president for eight years, he's been a running mate for another eight years, that alone is sixteen years."
Speaking on the JoyNews AM Show on Tuesday, Mr Aboagye confidently stated that Dr Bawumia is the right candidate to lead the NPP back to power, should he be selected as the party’s flagbearer for the next election, adding that unity is the key to returning to power.
"Our only fast route to power will be to stay united, neatly and closely together, work together behind a leader that has articulated clear-cut alternative policies to issues that matter most to the people of this country, and that person is Dr Bawumia."
Mr Aboagye emphasised that Dr Bawumia's extensive political experience, combined with his active role in the party, makes him the most suitable person to take the NPP to victory and argued that there is "no doubt about it, data supports it, our political history even supports that."
He suggested that, if given the opportunity, Dr Bawumia would provide the leadership necessary for the party to regain the trust of Ghanaians and secure another term in office.
As the NPP continues to deliberate on its future direction, Mr Aboagye's endorsement of Dr Bawumia adds to the ongoing debate surrounding leadership choices in the party.
Recently, the Deputy Communications Officer of the NPP, Ernest Owusu Bempah, claimed that over two million members of the party chose not to vote in the 2024 general elections due to what he described as the presentation of the wrong presidential candidate.
However, Mr Aboagye said Dr Bawumia's take on the claim is that "Team, let's work with the party who are committed to ensuring that we get back to power and implement all these ideas we have for all these sectors."
