A devastating fire broke out near the Madina Redco Flats at 11:15 p.m. last night, engulfing approximately 140 wooden and 20 metal structures used for both commercial and residential purposes.
Firefighters from the Madina Fire Station arrived promptly at 11:17 p.m., with reinforcements from the Adenta, Legon, Abelemkpe, and Headquarters Fire Stations.
The fire, which was already fully developed upon arrival, was brought under control by 12:02 a.m. and fully contained by 2:22 a.m.
Unfortunately, over 150 structures and their contents were completely destroyed. Tragically, a young Nigerian woman named Beauty, believed to be in her early twenties, was trapped and perished in the blaze. Her charred remains have been handed over to the Madina Police for preservation and further investigation.
Thanks to the swift and coordinated response of the Ghana National Fire Service, more than 200 nearby structures, including the Redco Flats, were saved from destruction.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
