At this year’s Peki Union Easter Congress in the South Dayi district of the Volta region, Dr. David Kofi Wuaku, former Bank of Ghana executive and founder of Lifeahead Vision Ministries, delivered a keynote address that centred on the urgent need for leadership, unity, and youth empowerment within the Peki Traditional Area.

Held under the unifying spirit of Easter, the annual Congress brought together traditional leaders, residents, and youth from all walks of life in a vibrant celebration of heritage, progress, and community.

A call for collective leadership and investment in youth

Addressing a packed audience that included the President of the Peki Union, Innocent Dake, and other dignitaries, Dr. Wuaku emphasised that leadership is not the responsibility of a few, but a collective duty shared by elders, educators, parents, professionals, and local institutions.

“True leadership happens when all of us come together to create opportunities for the next generation,” he said, quoting former U.S. President John Quincy Adams to underline the essence of inspirational leadership.

Dr. Wuaku stressed that the youth remain the Peki community’s most powerful asset, and that neglecting their growth today would mean compromising the region’s future tomorrow.

Launch of Peki ICT scholarship programme

Dr. Wuaku also unveiled the Peki ICT Scholarship Programme, a flagship initiative that seeks to sponsor talented students from the Peki Traditional Area who wish to pursue university-level studies in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

He highlighted the growing importance of digital literacy in today’s global economy and called for financial barriers to be dismantled in order to unlock the full potential of young people.

“This scholarship is not just about education—it is about empowerment,” he declared. “It is about saying to our young people, ‘We believe in you. Go and become the innovators, the programmers, the problem-solvers our world needs.’”

Leadership training programme to nurture future changemakers

Further solidifying his commitment to youth development, Dr. Wuaku announced a region-wide Leadership Training Programme set to launch this year.

The initiative aims to equip young men and women with critical life and leadership skills such as communication, integrity, teamwork, and service. These, he said, are the cornerstones of both personal and communal progress.

Drawing inspiration from the words of Nelson Mandela, he said, “The youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow. But we cannot expect them to lead tomorrow if we do not prepare them today.”

He called upon churches, schools, associations, and institutions across Peki to join hands in cultivating a generation of prepared, passionate, and principled leaders.

A direct message to the youth

Turning directly to the younger members of the audience, Dr. Wuaku offered heartfelt counsel: “Focus on what matters most… Discover your purpose early, and chase it with discipline and passion. Avoid shortcuts. Avoid the noise.”

Echoing the resilience of former U.S. President Barack Obama, he concluded his appeal with: “Press on, sons and daughters of Peki. Press on towards your purpose.”

A renewed call for unity and purpose

Dr. Wuaku’s speech concluded with a rousing call for collective action and a shared vision for the future of Peki. He urged all present to seize the spirit of Easter as a moment to recommit to unity, collaboration, and purpose-driven leadership.

“Let this Congress be the beginning of a renewed spirit in all of us,” he said. “Let it remind us of who we are, and what we can become when we lead together, build together, and rise together.”

With the launch of the ICT Scholarship and Leadership Training initiatives, Dr. Wuaku’s message resonated as both a challenge and an invitation—a challenge to rise to the occasion of youth empowerment, and an invitation to walk hand-in-hand into a brighter, more resilient future for the people of Peki.
