Popular Ghanaian TV sitcom Efiewura actor Koo Ofori, known in private life as Samuel Seth Kwabena Kyere Karikari, has been arrested by the Accra Central Police Command for allegedly defrauding a U.S.-based Ghanaian of $50,000.
According to police sources, the California-based victim transferred the money to Koo Ofori as part of what was presented as a legitimate investment opportunity.
However, the actor reportedly failed to honour the agreement and subsequently went into hiding.
The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, reported the matter to authorities after several failed attempts to retrieve the funds.
Investigations revealed that Koo Ofori had defaulted on repayment and ignored a summons to appear before the Dansoman District Court in Accra on April 17, 2025.
His failure to appear led the court to issue a bench warrant for his arrest.
A video shared on Facebook by Accra-based Atinka TV shows the actor being arrested, handcuffed, and accompanied by some policemen.
He was later apprehended and is currently in police custody. He was arraigned to appear on May 9, 2025, but that has been postponed.
The case has been rescheduled for Monday, May 12, 2025, and Koo Ofori is expected to remain in custody until then.
