The President of the Africa Paralympic Committee and head of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) of Ghana, Samson Deen, has paid a courtesy call on the Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, in Accra.
The meeting, which was held at the NSA headquarters at the Accra Sports Stadium, was aimed at congratulating Mr. Ankrah on his recent appointment and seeking the Authority’s support ahead of the upcoming Para Power Sports Festival scheduled for November.
“We are elated to have you as the new leader of the National Sports Authority,” Deen said.
“Your experience in sports administration, media, and understanding of the sector’s challenges makes your appointment a welcome development.”
During the visit, Deen revealed plans to host the first-ever Open Para Power Sports Festival in Ghana later this year.
The event is intended to offer African para-athletes a platform to compete both locally and internationally.
“This is the first time such an event is being staged in the region. We’re calling it ‘open’ because we want to encourage collaboration with neighbouring African countries,” he explained.
“It will also serve as a classification championship—providing both assessment and competition opportunities for para-athletes.”
He appealed for the NSA’s support in terms of facilities and logistics, particularly the use of venues such as the Borteyman and University of Ghana Sports Stadiums.
“We will need your facilities and human resources. We are asking for special dispensation to fast-track our requests and ensure successful preparations,” Mr. Deen added.
In response, NSA Director General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah expressed full support for the initiative.
“Congratulations on the upcoming games. You have the full backing of the National Sports Authority. Our expertise, networks, and institutional memory are at your disposal to ensure this event becomes a landmark in para sports development,” he assured.
