Nations FC moved to the summit of the Ghana Premier League table with an emphatic 4–1 victory over Legon Cities, who were consigned to relegation after a dismal defensive display at the University of Ghana Stadium.
Kelvin Ampoful scored twice for the visitors, who were ruthless in attack and capitalised on a series of costly errors from the home side.
Ampoful opened the scoring midway through the first half, pouncing on a loose ball to slot home from close range.
But Nations FC were pegged back just before the break when Rabin Ousmane Sanon inadvertently diverted the ball into his own net, bringing Legon Cities level.
The second half saw Nations FC shift gears. Emmanuel Annor restored the lead in the 64th minute with a clinical finish after a slick passing move, before Sadiq Alhassan made it 3–1 with a powerful strike from the edge of the area.
Ampoful rounded off the scoring late on, sealing a comfortable win that lifts Nations FC back to the top of the league with just a handful of matches remaining.
For Legon Cities, it was a bitter blow. The defeat leaves them mathematically relegated, ending their stay in Ghana’s top flight.
