Nations FC head coach Kassim Mingle says a crucial change in tempo after the break was key to his side’s 2-0 victory over relegated Legon Cities at the University of Ghana Stadium on Sunday, May 18.
The win moved Nations FC to the top of the Ghana Premier League table with 57 points, placing them one point above second-placed Bibiani Gold Stars and three points ahead of Hearts of Lions and Asante Kotoko.
Speaking after the game, Kassim admitted his side had to adjust tactically after a slow start.
“Legon Cities came into the game looking to cause an upset, especially judging from their first-half performance,” he said. “But in the second half, we changed the face of our game and raised the tempo. They couldn’t stand the tempo.”
He added, “We took advantage of the moment and scored our goals.”
The 67-year-old coach is now on the verge of making history with Nations FC, who are chasing their first-ever Premier League title with just three matches remaining in the season.
Nations FC will next face defending champions Samartex on Sunday, May 25, in what could be a decisive clash in the title race.
