This Saturday on Newsfile, host Samson Lardy Anyenini and his panelists are discussing the unfolding legal and political storm surrounding the suspension and possible removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
The conversation follows developments this week. The suspended Chief Justice, Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo, has filed an application at the Supreme Court seeking to restrain a committee set up by President John Mahama to investigate petitions seeking her removal from office.
In the suit filed on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, the Chief Justice requested an interlocutory injunction to halt all committee proceedings pending the final determination of the case.
According to court documents, the Chief Justice wants the Supreme Court to issue an order restraining the six-member committee.
The panel will look at whether this situation shows growing tension between the judiciary and the government, and what it means for the law and democracy in Ghana.
Also on the show, the panel will discuss the recent flooding incidents that affected various parts of Accra and other parts of the country, and the challenges faced by residents and the responses from authorities.
The floods resulted in the loss of three lives and caused significant damage to homes, shops, and personal property on May 18.
The panel will discuss the implications of this flooding event, examining the role of infrastructure planning and maintenance in urban areas, and explore measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
The show will discuss whether these issues reveal deeper challenges within Ghana’s governance and infrastructure management.
