President John Dramani Mahama has instructed the Ministry of Roads and Highways to expedite work on the rehabilitation and completion of the Maaban–Goaso Highway, a critical road link in the Ahafo Region.
The directive came during his ongoing "Thank You Tour" on Saturday, 31st May, as part of a broader commitment to improving infrastructure and supporting regional economic development.
President Mahama underscored the importance of the highway to both local mobility and national commerce, stating, “We will not abandon projects that were begun by the past government. We’re here to finish what we started and to build what is needed. We will soon have contractors back at work.” He emphasised that infrastructure development would not be hindered by political differences, reiterating that “governance is continuity.”
As part of a wider initiative, the President announced that his administration has compiled a comprehensive inventory of abandoned and incomplete infrastructure projects across the country.
He indicated that this assessment will guide efforts to revive critical projects, particularly those with high socio-economic impact.
“We have taken inventory of all abandoned and uncompleted projects by all previous governments,” he noted.
In line with this, President Mahama has tasked the Roads Ministry with ensuring swift action on the Maaban–Goaso Highway, in addition to key roads within Goaso, Kenyase, and Acherensua.
“I have directed the Ministry of Roads and Highways to prioritise the completion of the Maaban–Goaso Highway. This is a crucial link for mobility and trade across the region,” he said.
He further called for upgrades to urban roads to support the towns’ growth and ensure safer transport systems.
