There’s something powerful about speaking to students: sharing stories, answering questions, opening minds. But when you return a second time and are met with recognition and eager anticipation, that’s when you know your presence made a difference.
That was the feeling when the team from Enterprise Computing Ltd. (ECL) returned to Aburi Senior High School for its second mentorship talk. From the warm greetings to the familiar faces lighting up at the sight of past speakers, it was clear that something stuck the first time.
This year, the mission was clear - build on last year’s momentum and remind the students that the tech world is not beyond them. This was an opportunity for reuniting with mentors, continuing conversations, and building on the curiosity sparked a year ago.
The engagement brought together a panel of professionals, many of whom had been part of the maiden visit. With personal struggles and breakthrough moments, they painted vivid pictures of real-life journeys. What made these moments even more impactful was how the students connected with the stories.
The students also had one-on-one conversations with the experts. These conversations opened their eyes and minds to the many possibilities in the world of tech. One student, Dorcas, shared her key takeaways, “My experience with ECL has taught me that computing is not just for ICT students, but for everyone.” She added that with ICT the world will become better.
The headmistress, Mrs. Wilhelmina Obuobisa-Atakora, also shared her thoughts on the program, noting how critical it is for students to interact with professionals. “It gives the students a realistic view of the working world,” she said.
And for ECL, this is only the beginning.
“We didn’t just come to engage the students,” ECL’s Lab Services Manager, Serwaa Tuffour, remarked. “We came back because we believe in these students. We believe the next big innovator could be sitting in this very hall.”
By returning to Aburi SHS, ECL has shown that inspiring the next generation isn’t a one-off event - it’s a journey. One visit at a time, one student at a time.
