The Minister for Defence and Green Transition, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has announced that preparations are underway to mark Ghana’s 65th anniversary as a Republic, with key stakeholders, including the National Cadet Corps, involved in the celebrations.
Sharing details in a Facebook post on Saturday, June 21, 2025, Dr Boamah noted that he met with the leadership of the Corps earlier in the week at his office, The Square, located at the Ministry of Defence.
Highlighting the historical significance of the Corps, Dr Boamah recalled that it was founded 71 years ago at the Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS) in the Western Region, in pursuit of Ghana’s self-determination.

“The Cadet Corps was founded... to help train and instil in the youth the values of patriotism and discipline,” he wrote. “This vision lives on.”
Dr Boamah used the occasion to underline the role of Ghana’s youth in nation-building, revealing that under the ongoing Resetting Ghana agenda, National Service Personnel are being encouraged to volunteer for training by the Ghana Armed Forces.

The initiative is aimed at fostering a deeper sense of duty, discipline, and national pride among the younger generation.
He concluded his post with optimism, describing the unfolding developments as “exciting times ahead.”
