Accra’s Republic Bar & Grill will celebrate its 13th anniversary this year with a special Burkina Faso Solidarity Concert under the theme ‘Sound & Spirit across Borders’. Founded in 2012 in Osu, Republic has grown from a local bar into a cultural hub that champions Ghanaian heritage, art, and communal creativity. As the venue approaches this milestone, organizers have chosen to honour their long-standing vision of pan-African exchange by dedicating the festivities to friends and artists in Burkina Faso.
Since opening its doors, Republic has played a key role in redefining nightlife in West Africa. The venue was among the first to revive akpeteshie, Ghana’s traditional cane spirit, in a modern urban setting. It combines locally inspired food, handcrafted cocktails, and live performances to highlight the best of Ghanaian culture. Over the past decade, Republic has offered a stage to emerging and established musicians, visual artists, and creative entrepreneurs, fostering a sense of shared identity and innovation.
This year’s theme speaks directly to the social and political challenges faced by Burkinabé communities. The Burkina Faso Solidarity Concert will bring together a lineup of musicians, DJs, and cultural voices who use rhythm and song to address issues of resilience, resistance, and unity. Attendees can expect performances that blend traditional West African sounds with contemporary beats, alongside opportunities for dialogue and reflection on cross-border collaboration.

In keeping with its founding mission, Republic Bar & Grill sees the anniversary as more than a party. It is an invitation to explore the ties that bind West African nations through history, music, and shared creative practice. By showcasing Burkinabé talent alongside Ghanaian acts, the event aims to strengthen cultural connections and raise awareness of the power of art to foster solidarity in challenging times.
The anniversary celebration reflects Republic’s broader vision of cultivating a pan-African creative economy. Over the years, the bar has become a testing ground for new artistic ideas and a meeting place for diverse audiences. Its commitment to local heritage and global relevance is evident in every aspect of its programming, from food and drink menus to curated exhibitions, and community workshops.
As Republic Bar & Grill toasts 13 years of artistic exploration and community building, the Burkina Faso Solidarity Concert will remind audiences that culture knows no borders. Guests are encouraged not only to enjoy an evening of inspired performances, but also to stand in solidarity with their Burkinabé neighbours and to celebrate the shared spirit that unites us all.
