The Electricity Company of Ghana has completed the construction of a new distribution line from the Afari substation to Nkawie to improve power supply in some communities under the Atwima Nwabiegya South Municipality.
The project completed at an estimated cost of over GHȼ2.7 million will enhance power supply to consumers around Nkawie, Toase, Mpasatia, Gyankobaa, Wioso, Kwame Dwaah, Bedabour and its environs.
The new distribution line includes erecting 92 new 11-metre poles, 3 new 12-metre poles, 11kV headgear, stringing of new conductors, 11kV GIS load isolator and other electrical installations.
Ashanti West Regional General Manager, Ing. George Amoah, emphasized the company’s mission of achieving universal power accessibility.
"We are committed to providing quality, reliable and safe electricity services to support the socio-economic growth and development of Ghana informed management’s decision to complete this project to provide convenience for our customers,” he noted.
Prior to the completion of the project, customers residing in and around the Nkawie enclave relied on a farther distant power supply from the Agogo Primary Substation.
The lengthy distribution line from Atwima Agogo to Nkawie upon reaching its maximum capacity made it difficult to completely supply consumers within the enclave.
These challenges led to occasional low voltage in some areas especially during peak periods, hence the urgency to construct a dedicated line from the Afari Primary Substation to relieve the load on the line from the Agogo Primary Substation.
“We are aware of significant load growth towards the Nkawie enclave with the massive infrastructure springing up everyday, hence the need to initiate and complete this project to relieve existing distribution lines like Ntensere, Sepaase and also take care of future demand in the area,” Ing. Amoah noted.
The new project would ensure reduction of system losses, improve reliability and stable power supply within the enclave to enhance customer satisfaction.
It would also improve Voltage Profile as the issues of low voltage will be addressed with the completion of this new distribution line while enhancing operational efficiency and flexibility.
Ing. Amoah underscored the importance of this project as a step in the right direction towards the provision of reliable and quality power supply to attract businesses to the Region and ensure all customers are happy with the services of ECG.
Meanwhile, the company is embarking on similar projects across the region to improve electricity supply.
“We are also constructing another distribution line from the Afari Substation to Sepaase to improve power supply to customers around Afari, Nerebehi and Ntensere”, Ing. Amoah added.
Customers engaging in illegal connections have been advised to desist from illegal activity and pay their bills promptly for improved power supply and completion of existing projects.
