President John Dramani Mahama, and the Acting Chief Justice, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, are expected to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected National Executive of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA).
The event is scheduled to take place on Friday, July 11, 2025, at the Accra International Conference Centre at 9:00 a.m.
In a statement issued by the GJA, the Association expressed its honour in hosting President Mahama as the Special Guest of Honour, while Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie will officiate the ceremony and administer the oaths to the incoming national leaders.
The ceremony follows elections held on Monday, 30th June 2025, during which GJA members in good standing elected both National and Regional Executive Members.
The swearing-in marks the official beginning of their three-year term, during which they are expected to uphold journalistic integrity and steer the Association towards greater impact and professionalism.
The occasion, according to the GJA will also be graced by Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, representatives from the Judicial Service, and members of the diplomatic community, emphasising the vital role of a free and responsible press in democratic governance.
The GJA has extended an open invitation to all journalists, media practitioners, media owners, partners, and supporters of press freedom to attend what it described as a historic and symbolic event.
"Your presence will not only lend gravitas to the ceremony but also demonstrate a collective commitment to advancing journalism in Ghana," the statement read.
In addition to the national officers, newly elected Regional Executive Officers will also be sworn in by Justices of the Superior Courts on the same day.
The event signals a new chapter for the GJA. The incoming leadership is expected to draw inspiration from Article 3 of the 2004 GJA Constitution, which outlines the Association’s aims and objectives.
Their mandate includes consolidating previous gains while working towards a more robust, ethical, professional, and independent media that actively contributes to good governance and national development.
